In this article, we will explore the themes and prophecies contained in Ezekiel 36-38, examining their historical context, their potential fulfillment in modern times, and their relevance to our understanding of God’s plan for the world. Join us on this journey through one of the most captivating and enigmatic sections of the Bible.

EZEKIEL Chapter 36:
The Restored Land

In chapter 36, Ezekiel prophesies to the mountains of Israel, telling them that God is going to restore the land and the people of Israel to their former glory. He explains that this restoration will happen not because of any merit on the part of the Israelites, but rather because God wants to show His holiness to the nations. Ezekiel also emphasizes that the Israelites will be cleansed from their sins and given a new heart and spirit.

Christian Zionists and Messianic Jews believe that the restoration of the Jewish people to their homeland and the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 are clear fulfillments of the prophecies in Ezekiel 36. They believe that this restoration was not only a political and historical event but also a spiritual one, in which God has brought the Jewish people back to their land and given them a renewed sense of purpose and identity.

Believers in the fulfillment of the Ezekiel prophecies in Ezekiel 36 also point to the revival of the Hebrew language, the flourishing of Israeli agriculture and industry, and the return of Jews from all over the world as evidence of the fulfillment of Ezekiel’s prophecies. They believe that this restoration is a sign of God’s faithfulness to his promises and a prelude to the ultimate restoration of Israel under the Messiah’s reign.

Ezekiel Chapter 37:
The Resurrected People

In chapter 37, Ezekiel has a vision of a valley full of dry bones. God tells him to prophesy to the bones, and as he does, they come to life and form into bodies. God explains that this vision represents the restoration of Israel. Just as the bones were brought back to life, so too will God bring the Israelites back to their land and restore them as a nation—a resurrected people.

Ezekiel also prophesies about the reunification of the two kingdoms of Israel, which had split apart after the reign of Solomon. The fulfillment of Ezekiel 37 can be seen in the return of Jews from all over the world to Israel, and in the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. The vision of the dry bones coming to life symbolizes the restoration of the Jewish people and their reunification as a nation.

Additionally, the revival of the Hebrew language, which was a dead language for centuries, is another fulfillment of the prophecy in Ezekiel 37. The Hebrew language is now spoken as the primary language in Israel and has become a unifying force among the Jewish people.

The establishment of the Messianic Jewish movement was also a fulfillment of Ezekiel 37. It is is a sign of the spiritual restoration of the Jewish people, who are returning to their Jewish roots and embracing Yeshua (Jesus) as their Messiah. This movement is a fulfillment of God’s promise to put his Spirit in the Jewish people and to bring them back to their land.

Ezekiel Chapter 38:
The Epic Battle

Chapter 38 describes a prophecy about the epic battle that will take place in the future. Ezekiel speaks of a coalition of nations that will come against Israel, led by a ruler named Gog. However, God will intervene and defeat Gog and his armies, showing his power and holiness to the nations. This victory will also lead to the restoration of Israel and the recognition of God’s sovereignty by the surrounding nations.

Some interpreters believe that current geopolitical developments and events in the Middle East could be seen as potential indications of the approaching fulfillment of the Ezekiel 38 prophecy. For example, the alliance between Russia and Iran, which are both mentioned in the prophecy, and their involvement in the Syrian civil war, has led some to speculate that this could be the beginning of the coalition that will attack Israel. Additionally, the rise of radical Islamic groups and their hostility towards Israel has led some to see them as potential participants in the coalition.

Others point to the growing tension between Israel and some of its neighboring countries, particularly Iran and its proxies in Lebanon and Gaza, as a potential trigger for the events described in Ezekiel 38. The increasing militarization and modernization of the Russian military and its expansionist policies in the Middle East have also led some to see it as a prominent player in the coalition.

However, it’s important to note that the fulfillment of the Ezekiel 38 prophecy, like any prophecy, is ultimately in God’s hands and subject to his timing and purposes. Therefore, any attempt to predict the timing or exact fulfillment of this prophecy should be approached with caution and humility.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Ezekiel 36-38 is a section of the Bible that offers a unique and fascinating glimpse into the future of the land of Israel and its people. Through its themes of restoration, resurrection, and conflict, it presents a vision of God’s plan for the world and the role that Israel will play in it. While the precise details and timing of these events remain a mystery, the message of Ezekiel 36-38 is clear: God is in control, and His promises to His people will ultimately be fulfilled. As we reflect on these prophecies and their potential implications for the future, may we be inspired to trust in God’s goodness and faithfulness, and to live with hope and purpose as we await the fulfillment of His plans.

Where is Magog?

Oxford Bible Church presents one of the most detailed and remarkable studies on this topic.

"The ancient writers refer to the Great Wall of China as Sud Yagog et Magog, the 'Ramparts of Gog and Magog.' Arab writers confirm that in the Arabic language, the name for the Great Wall of China is 'the wall of Al Magog,' because the wall was built to keep out the invading armies from Magog..."
