A Great Sign

“A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet…”
(Revelation 12:1)

The image above is a screenshot from a mobile app.  The mobile app is also available as software that you can download for your desktop or laptop computer.  The software is called Stellarium, and it is full-featured planetarium software.

You can go backward in time and even forward in time to observe the precise positioning of the stars, the planets and other celestial bodies on any given date and time.

View with atmosphere or no atmosphere.

Add landscaping as a visual reference point.

But aside from all the viewing features available in this free software, the thing that’s got everybody talking is the configuration of the sun, the moon and the stars on a day that is fast approaching. And the reason why everyone is talking about this is that the configuration precisely matches the description of a verse in Bible prophecy.

“I am NOT predicting that this sign of September 23, 2017 is the beginning of the end times. But it means something significant. The meaning of all those “coincidences” surrounding it means it could mark the beginning of the end and most importantly it would be biblically consistent if it does mark the beginning of the end. … This document may be freely shared in part or in whole. “A Great Sign Appeared in Heaven”

The Bible contains references to signs as well as great signs. One reference to great signs is found in the Gospel of Luke.

There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
Luke 21:11

Another reference to a great sign is found in the book of Revelation.

A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.
Revelation 12:1

Great Signs

Notice that both of these verses refer to heaven as the source of the signs.  Luke 21:11 refers to great signs “from heaven” and Revelation 12:1 refers to a great sign that “appeared in heaven.”

Free Planetarium Software

The screenshot above was taken from planetarium software called Stellarium.

Stellarium is free software, and you can install it on every major platform for your desktop or laptop computer.  There is also a mobile app that you can find in Google Play by searching for “Stellarium.”  The mobile app costs $2.49 in the Google Play store.

The screenshot above represents the precise locations of certain celestial bodies and constellations on September 23, 2017.  The positioning of these stars and planets will be similar on September 24, 2017, but the moon will have moved further away.

An increasing number of people who study Bible prophecy are beginning to notice something remarkable.  There is an extraordinary similarity between the positioning of the celestial bodies in this configuration and the positioning of the sun, the moon and the stars described in the book of Revelation, chapter 12 and verse 1.

The video below focuses on Revelation 12:1.

“A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.”
~ Revelation 12:1 NIV

To really appreciate the effect of the sun on the woman (depicted, in this case, by the constellation Virgo), we merely need to turn on the atmosphere feature to see that she is essentially “clothed with the sun” in this configuration that will come into this extraordinary alignment on September 23, 2017 and September 24, 2017.

Take a look…

With the atmosphere effect turned on, it really does look like a woman that is “clothed with the sun.”

Wow!

She definitely looks like she is clothed with the sun now.

The fact that the alignment of the celestial bodies in question resembles the description in Revelation 12:1 so closely does not mean that anything is going to happen on planet Earth that day.  However, it could mean that one of the greatest signs in the Bible will be fulfilled very soon.

What Could This Mean?

The word “heaven” (or the phrase “the heavens”) is often associated with the heavenly bodies that we see in the night sky.  When the Apostle Paul refers to a man who was caught up into the third heaven, we understand that he is referring to that specific dimension or realm of heaven where he saw things so wonderful that he was not permitted to speak of them.

For insight into the meaning of this, we consider the context.

Let’s take a look at Revelation 12:1-9:

1 A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.
2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.
3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads.
4 Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born.
5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.”[a] And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.
6 The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.
7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.
9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

After the devil and his angels are hurled to the earth, notice the response in heaven:

10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:

“Now have come the salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Messiah.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been hurled down.

11 They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.

12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.”

Notice that last phrase verse.  The devil will be filled with fury, because he will know that his time is short.  The remaining verses in Revelation chapter 12 reveal where he will focus his fury.

13 When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.
14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent’s reach.
15 Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent.
16 But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth.
17 Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring—those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus.

There are apparently things that the whole world we see simply by observing what has been revealed to all in heavenly expanse that we can see in the night sky. Is it possible that the Blood Moons, the Bethlehem Star and other celestial events that we have been seeing in recent years are the signs to which these verses are referring when they say “from heaven” and “appeared in heaven”?

Is it possible that things which we have always interpreted figuratively may also have a literal interpretation because we can observe them by telescopes, by satellites and even with our own eyes in the night sky?

With respect to the sun, the moon and the stars, is it possible that when God said, “Let them be for signs” and “Let them serve as signs” (depending on the version you are reading) that we would be able to make observations and associations with respect to the events that the Scriptures foretold long ago?

And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years.
Genesis 1:14

If so, then the Biblical relevance of these events should not be overlooked.

Bible Prophecy and Computer Software

Computer software like Stellarium and Starry Night 7 make it possible to go forwards and backwards in time to see and track the motion of planets and stars through the centuries.

The constellation Virgo (i.e., the woman) is clothed with the Sun.  The planet Jupiter will be inside of her.  The moon will be at her feet.

The details truly appear to match the description in Revelation 12:1.

Could this represent what John saw in the book of Revelation?

This image is a snapshot of a date which will occur this year.  This is how the planets and stars will appear on September 23, 2017.
